2. Kedarnath
This love story directed by Abhishek Kapoor stars Sara Ali Khan (a.k.a Mandakini), a young girl living in Kedarnath with her family and Sushant Singh Rajput (a.k.a Mansoor), a Muslim boy who is a local pithoo (porter) living in the same town. Mandakini’s father is a local pandit and things get complicated when Mansoor falls in love with Mandakini. The inter-caste romance between the two characters of different faiths forms the core of the story. However, the film also weaves in the floods that hit Kedarnath in 2013 and this catastrophe is the turning point of the movie.
3. URI
URI is a Bollywood movie based on the surgical strikes that took place in 2016 by the Indian Army. This attack was planned in retaliation to the terrorist attack that was conducted in Uri that killed 19 Indian soldiers. 35-50 terrorists in militant launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, were reportedly killed in the covert operation. Vicky Kaushal (a.k.a Major Vihan Shergill) plays the lead in the film. Apart from him, the performances of Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam also catch the eye in the film.
4. Dhadak
Set in Rajasthan, this love story directed by Shashank Khaitan explores how a young couple get entwined in differences between castes and honour killing. Unfortunately, torn between societal pressure and their families- their story takes an uncertain turn. Starring Ishaan Khattar (a.k.a Madhukar) and Janhvi Kapoor (a.k.a Parthavi), the movie is an official adaptation of the Marathi blockbuster, Sairat which is also available to watch on ZEE5.
5. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, this comedy is a sequel to the laugh riot, Happy Bhag Jayegi released in 2016. The story is based on a group of Hindi-speaking Chinese gangsters who set out to kidnap Happy (Diana Penty) and her would-be husband Guddu (Ali Fazal) who are on the run. It’s a fun film especially because most scenes have characters caught in extraordinary circumstances. The way the movie tackles humour makes it a light yet entertaining watch.
