Luxury car maker, Mercedes-Benz recently launched the most powerful and expensive car in the armored vehicle segment in India – the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard, priced at Rs. 10.5 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the third car the Stuttgart-based manufacturer has launched with the Maybach branding and the second armored S range car, in the Indian market.

1. VR10 Protection:
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard meets the VR10 protection rating according to Directive BRV 2009 (Bullet Resistant Vehicles) Version 2. This is the highest level of ballistic protection for civilian vehicles. In order to meet the VR10 requirements, the body and windows have to withstand hardened steel bullets fired from an assault rifle.
2. ERV Rating:
Now this one is impressive – in order to receive the Explosive Resistant Vehicles 2010 rating, the car needs to withstand a 15kg TNT blast from a distance of just 2 metres. This is greater than the previous ERV 2012 requirement of 4 metres instead of 2. The glasses come with a special polycarbonate coating and the under-body of the car is also armored enough to protect the occupants from a bomb that blasts right underneath the car.

3. Launch:
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard launched in India just 15 days after its international launch. This is the fastest Mercedes has launched a car in India from their global portfolio. Mercedes seems to view the armored car segment in India as a growing sector. This can be seen with the number of armored cars it has in its portfolio which include the S 500 and S 600 Guard versions in the S range, as well as the G 500 Guard, GLE 350d Guard and GLE 500 Guard in the armored SUV category.

4. Engine Performance:
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard is equipped with a 523 bhp (390 KW) 6.0 litre twin-turbo v12 engine, with 84.61 kgm of torque to offer. The car can do a 0-100 km/hr sprint in 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of 190 km/hr – not bad for a car that weighs almost 4.7 tonnes.
5. Additional Features:
The car’s wheels are wrapped in specially designed PAX run-flat tyres which enables it to run on 0 pressure for upto 28.8 kilometres at 30 km/hr. The cabin has been designed especially for any gas-attacks, which injects fresh air into the car in any such eventuality. The car also comes with roller blinds all-round in the rear, an emergency alarm, heated windscreen and side glasses, a fire extinguishing system and hydraulic power for the heavy side windows.
