5 Things You Need to Know About 3 Team Cricket (3TC)

Cricket returns with a revolutionary new format after three months of disrupted sporting activities and tournaments due to coronavirus pandemic. The new format is going to be a three team format and will be conducted in South Africa. Some of the finest names in the sport like AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada will be back on the field seen playing this 3TC (three-team cricket) match format.

Here are the 5 Things You Need to Know About 3 Team Cricket (3TC):

 

1. How will the 36 overs version work?

Contested between three teams of eight players each.  The game is divided into two halves of 18 overs each. Each team will face 12 hours per innings during the course of the game. In the first half each team faces six overs from one of their opponents and in the second half each team faces another six overs from their opponents.



2. How will the 90 overs version work?

The 90 overs version is contested between three teams of 11 players each. It is divided into two halves of 45 overs each. Each team will face 30 overs per innings in this game. In the first half each team faces 15 overs from one of their opponents and in the second half each team faces another 15 overs.

 

3. What are the rules for 36 overs format?

In the first half teams rotate from batting to bowling to the dugout with the starting positions determined by our draw. In the second half teams bat in order of the highest scores in the first half. After the fall of the seventh wicket the last battle stands alone and can only score in even number of runs. If the seventh wicket falls in first half the team forfeits the remaining balls and the last battle resumes in second half. There are maximum three overs per bowler to either opponent. What’s also interesting in this format is that, most runs win gold second silver and third bronze.

 

4. What are the rules for 90 overs format?

Bowling teams get new balls for each of their two opponents. A maximum of six overs per bowler is allowed. Power plays in the first five overs in the first half Power plays in any consecutive five overs elected by the batting team in the second half. Max of two fielders allowed outside and inner ring in a power play otherwise a max of four. Most runs when gold second silver and third bronze.



5. When and where will it take place?

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the experimental format 3TC. The match is expected to be played on June 27th. It will be played at Super Sport Park, Gauten, South Africa.
