It’s always great when every now and then a movie comes along that has a feel-good factor to it, one which uplifts your spirit and leaves a smile on your face. That, our friends, is Atkan Chatkan for you in one line. Directed by Shiv Hare, #AtkanChatkanOnZEE5 is a rags to riches story of a very gifted youngster called Guddu, who forms a band with his street-kid friends and against all odds wins a prestigious musical competition, without the use of proper instruments.
While the movie does have a predictive story line, it’s the sheer acting of the kids and the music that keep you enthralled all throughout the film.

1. A.R Rahman is out with his first musical movie
The movie is presented by the music maestro, A.R Rahman. The story is about a gifted and talented kid called Guddu who won a prestigious music competition along with his band which consists of other street kids. This story is also somewhat inspired by the life of the legendary Shivamani, who has also composed the music.
2. The cast of Atkan Chatkan
The writers, Shiv Hare and Aadesh Raathi have put together a simple yet a very powerful story to tell.
The movie is led by four kids – Lydian Nadhaswaram, Sachin Chaudhary, Yash Rane, Tamanna Dipak, Ayesha who have done a fantastic job! The lead cast, Lydian who is a very talented musician, is also a real life protege of A.R Rahman, and hence very convincingly plays the role of Guddu.
Despite having a language barrier; a Telugu spoken boy – Lydian’s utmost sincerity makes a huge difference to the character. When asked about his experience, he said –
“Before the schedule, we had a ten-day workshop in Mumbai, where the director and an acting teacher taught me expressions and other things. It was a big challenge to act in front of the camera. It was also challenging to speak in Hindi as it is not my mother tongue.”
3. The Plot
Atkan Chatkan is a movie about a group of children who challenge their surroundings to be brave enough to dream.
The narrative revolves around Guddu, an underage labourer who shares a deep love for music. He has a passion to observe and listen which helps him create new sounds. As he continues with his daily mundane life, the movie picks up when he forms his own music band with three other street children who work near his tea stall. The life of these four kids changes when this band goes on to participating in the city’s biggest music competition.

The underlying message of the movie is #DreamItLiveIt i.e. stop fearing your circumstances and start believing in your dreams. ‘Sapne umar nahi dekhte’, ‘sapne aukaat nahi dekhte’, are the messages the trailer put forward too.
