With the most awaited cricketing extravaganza finally underway, the buzz around the ICC Cricket World Cup has got all us cricket fans ‘Bleeding Blue’. It’s that time of the year again when we stand strong in solidarity with respect for our boys. Amongst our many rivals, the team from Down Under has consistently put up a good fight and has been winning the titles since 1999 except 2011 when India walked away with the trophy. There is a different energy in the room when an Ind vs Aus match is being played.

Here are 5 of the most memorable India vs Australia ODIs:

1. Beating the Title Holder, 2nd Quarter Final, World Cup, 2011

While India was gunning to win this title as the favourites, after 28 long years, Australia was, on the other hand, trying to retain theirs’. The yellow brigade’s Ricky Ponting scored a century, but his was a lone fight against team India. This quarter-final almost felt like a game between the two finest batsmen of the two teams- Ricky Ponting vs Sachin Tendulkar. We all know what happened in the end, with Suresh Raina and man of the match Yuvraj Singh taking India home safely

2. Master Blaster’s Exemplary 175, Fifth ODI, Hyderabad, 2009

It was just one of those matches where your heart went out to the greatest servants of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. It was this match when Australia beat India by 3 runs despite Sachin’s 175 runs, which he was also adjudged Man of the Match for.

Shaun Marsh, who made the most of his two dropped catches, scored 112 while opening partner Shane Watson (93), Cameron White (57) and Ricky Ponting (45) all made significant contributions.

Tendulkar replied in style with his 175 and was supported by Suresh Raina (59). He brought India close to victory, but unfortunately, India was bowled out for 347 with three deliveries to spare.

3. Sachin’s ‘Desert Storm’, Sharjah, 1998

The series fondly remembered as Sachin’s ‘Desert Storm’, was titled so as it was a match between Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne. The world’s greatest batsman against the world’s best spinner, all squared up in an exciting India vs Australia encounter. However, Tendulkar in full form managed to beat the Aussie, smashing an impressive 143 to help India qualify for the final of Coca Cola Cup. Sachin went a step further to prove that it was no fluke by scoring a stunning 134 two days later as India beat Australia in the final.

4. When The Newbies Blew Out The Veterans, Brisbane, 1977

This match was one of a kind! 6 Australian players made their Test debut in this encounter against India. Peter Toohey, scored an impressive 82 as India allowed the hosts to achieve a target of just 166. Despite an almost half-century from Dilip Vengsarkar’s and GR Vishwanath’s 45 along with a century from Sunil Gavaskar, they could not save the match.

5. India’s First Ever Test Win Against Australia, Kanpur, 1959

This historic moment os India vs Australia is certainly one of the most memorable India matches, ever. After all, it was India’s first Test win against Australia. India tasted victory after 10 Tests against Australia at the Green Park ground in Kanpur in December 1959. India had never got the better of Australia in nine attempts since 1947-48. Ramchand won the toss and batted first, but the Indians made a mess of their first innings, collapsing for just 152. In spite of the poor start, the Indian Team made a comeback in the second innings with an impressive 291 and bowled out the visitors for 105, to win the match by 119 runs!
